Performance Groups

We have three age groups in our studio. The youngest children playing in our theater are five to nine year old ("Little Kids" group). The next age group consists of ten to thirteen year olds ("Middle Kids"). And the eldest children are fourteen to eighteen years old ("Big Kids"). Each group has age appropriate repertoire.

The plays you can see at our studio range from "Prikluchenya Kolobkov" and "Igraem v Aibolita" to "The Naked King" and "Obiknovennoe Chudo."

History

When over three years ago several moms decided to organize a holiday concert with their children, nobody could even imagine that the initiative would become such a successful and long lasting project. Our charismatic leader Alla with her enthusiasm and energy created this studio where our children can express themselves while practicing Russian and learning Russian classics.

Since the first little scene called "Academic Ivanov," we have produced over fifteen performances. Most of our plays are shown at UCSD School of Medicine, in Garren Auditorium of the Basic Science Building. Our sponsor, UCSD European Staff Association, helps us in many ways including providing space for our concerts and rehearsals and sponsoring our equipment.

We show our performances to our relatives and friends. We also went to Clairmont Villa Adult Day Health Center to show our play "Cinderella" to senior Russians and had a huge success. Some of the plays were so successful that we had to repeat them. That happened with "Cinderella" and "Haunted House" which ran several times. Recently, the troupe has been invited by the Adult Day Health Center to perform "Obiknovennoye Chudo" a second time.

In general, our creations become more and more professional with the decorations and costumes being made by our talented parents. We hope that this experience will help the children to be creative and successful and will enrich their school, college, and adult life.
